Don't Worry, Steroids Haven't Killed Him..... yet by Mark Daly

Longtime Professional Baseball Player Alexander (Alex) Emmanuel Rodriguez, 37, lived suddenly on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2013, while rehabbing at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

According to family Spokesperson Joseph Teller, Alex was in Florida recovering from off season knee surgery when he was found unconscious-NOT REALLY inside his home by a neighbor. According to Teller, paramedics were called to his home but were unsuccessful in their efforts to revive him. The cause of NOT REAL-death is currently unknown.

Alex was born in the Washington Heights section of New York City on July 27, 1975, the son of Victor and Lourdes Rodriguez.

After moving back and forth between the United States and the Dominican Republic as a child, they eventually settled in the Miami, Fla. area when Alex was nine.

Alex graduated from Westminster Christian High School in Miami, Florida in 1993, the school where we was recognized for his outstanding athletic ability and the school that he helped win a Florida State Baseball Championship for. After turning down offers to play baseball and football at the University of Miami, the USA Baseball Junior Player of the Year and Gatorade's national baseball student athlete of the year was drafted first overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 1993 Major League Draft.

After playing for less than 3 months in the Mariner’s farm system, Rodriquez was called up to play for shortstop for the team. At only 18 years old, Alex was the third youngest player in modern day to ever start for a Major League team. In 1996, his first full season with the team, Alex went on to finish second in the American League in the Most Valuable Player voting, finishing with 36 homeruns, 123 RBI’s, and a batting average of .358, a league record.

After four seasons, Rodriquez signed with the Texas Rangers, to the league’s largest contract in history, signing a 10-year deal worth $252 million, more than $50 million more than any previous player.
After enjoying three seasons with the Texas Rangers, in which he broke Major League records and won the 2003 American League Most Valuable Player Award, Rodriguez was traded to the New York Yankees prior to the 2004 season, where he had played ever since.

Most recently, Rodriquez’s name has been involved in the ongoing steroid investigation that has plagued Major League Baseball. Although he continuously he has denied use, other athletes who have been accused have continuously named in Federal reports.

Besides the New York Yankees, Alex would leave behind his ex-wife Cynthia, who he had been married to for six years. Additionally, Alex would leave behind two daughters, Natasha and Ella, who lived with their mother. Besides his immediate family, Alex would leave behind two half brothers, Joe and Victor Jr. and one half sister, Suzy.

Services will be private in Miami, Florida at all Saint’s Cemetery. The Brother’s Funeral Home, 25 Main Street, Miami, has been bestowed to handle his ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his honor to the New York Cancer Society, 110 Washington Ave., Bronx, NY, 33056.
